Kerbed, corroded or flaking alloys let down an otherwise clean car — and knock money off its value at sale or lease return. Our alloy wheel refurbishment in Ilford strips, repairs and refinishes wheels back to showroom condition, in your original finish or a new colour.

What we fix

  • Kerb damage — gouges and scrapes along the rim, filled, profiled and refinished.
  • Corrosion & flaking lacquer — stripped back and resealed properly so it doesn’t return next winter.
  • Peeling paint and old refurbs gone wrong — stripped to bare alloy and done right.
  • Colour changes — gloss black, gunmetal, silver or custom colours across a full set.

How we refurbish a wheel

  1. Off the car — tyre removed, wheel inspected for cracks and buckles before any cosmetic work.
  2. Strip & repair — old finish removed, kerb damage filled and profiled back to the original rim line.
  3. Refinish & cure — primed, painted and lacquered, then cured for a durable finish.
  4. Refit & balance — tyre refitted with fresh valves where needed, balanced, back on the car.

Why bodyshop refurbishment beats a drive-up stand

Quick cosmetic stands paint over damage with the wheel still on the car — overspray, soft finishes, and kerb damage still visible under the paint. We repair the alloy itself and cure the finish properly; the result lasts, and it’s checked and rebalanced before it goes back on.

Why drivers choose Thames Autos

  • From £79* per wheel, with full-set discounts
  • Safety inspection included — cracks and buckles caught before they bite
  • Original finish, colour change or full set transformations
  • Written guarantee on the finish

Alloy wheel questions

How long does a set of alloys take?
Usually 1–2 days for a full set. Need the car daily? We can do two wheels at a time or provide a courtesy car.
Can you repair diamond-cut alloys?
Kerbed diamond-cut wheels need specialist lathe re-cutting — tell us your wheel type when you send photos and we’ll confirm the right process and price.
Is a buckled wheel repairable?
Minor buckles often are; cracked or badly buckled wheels are a safety issue and we’ll tell you honestly if replacement is the safer option.
Do refurbished wheels affect a lease return?
They help — kerbed alloys are one of the most common end-of-lease penalty charges, and refurbishment almost always costs less than the charge.
